CBD Oil Benefits: What You Need to Know About CBD Oil

The CBD market has been flourishing, with a conservative projection of $16 billion in the US by 2025. According to a survey of 5,000 people, more than 60% of CBD users have used it to treat anxiety.

CBD oil is created by combining the cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD) with a carrier oil. To control anxiety, mood, and appetite, cannabinoids work on the endocannabinoid system of the body.

Cannabis indica, Cannabis sativa, and Cannabis Ruderalis are among the cannabis species from which CBD is extracted. However, CBD concentrations found in hemp (Cannabis Ruderalis) plants are often higher

Is cannabidiol legal?

The Agriculture Improvement Act was approved and signed into law by the US Congress in 2018. This bill effectively made CBD legal if it comes from hemp by removing hemp from the federal Controlled Substances Act.2

The Farm Bill excluded all hemp-derived products, including CBD, from the Controlled Substances Act, which criminalizes drug possession. In short, this means that CBD is legal if it originates from hemp, but not if it comes from cannabis (marijuana), ignoring the fact that they are the same molecule. However, a few states still list hemp as a restricted substance, therefore the legality of CBD products varies from state to state.  Many people now buy CBD online without a medical marijuana license, which is legal in the majority of states.

 Benefits of CBD oil

Here are some of the potential benefits of CBD oil:

Lowering Blood Pressure

CBD was found to reduce blood pressure in human participants in a study done by JCI Insight in 2017. It lowered their resting blood pressure as well as their blood pressure after stress tests such as mental arithmetic, isometric exercise, and the cold pressor test.

Inflammation Reduction

According to a study conducted by the Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research, CBD oils can help reduce inflammation and the neuropathic pain that it can produce.

Keeping Drug and Alcohol Addiction From Reoccurring

A 2018 study revealed that CBD can aid patients who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. In preclinical research with lab rats, CBD was found to reduce stress-induced cravings, anxiety, and lack of impulse control which often results in relapse.

Anxiety Disorders Treatment

The most common condition for which people use CBD is anxiety, and a preclinical study revealed that it can help treat many anxiety disorders, including panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Treating Digestive System (GI) Diseases

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and other GI illnesses can all be prevented and treated with CBD and other non-psychoactive cannabinoids, according to a recent study. The anti-inflammatory effects of CBD are vital for symptom management and prevention.

Preventing Seizure Risk

The use of CBD to treat epilepsy and other seizure syndromes has been studied for many years, and a recent study found that it can be effective in minimizing symptoms and frequency of seizures.

Is CBD safe?

The negative effects of CBD include fatigue, irritability, and nausea. By competing for the liver enzymes that break down these medications, CBD can raise the level of blood-thinning and other medications in your blood.

High CBD dosage users may have abnormalities in blood tests relating to the liver. Many non-prescription drugs, like acetaminophen (Tylenol), have this same effect. Therefore, if you consistently use CBD, you should let your doctor know.

CBD is mainly marketed and sold as a supplement rather than a medicine creates serious safety concerns. The FDA does not currently have any laws governing the purity and safety of dietary supplements. As a result, you cannot be sure that the product you purchase has the active chemicals in the dosage specified on the label. The item may also include unidentified components. The ideal therapeutic dose of CBD for any specific medical condition is also unknown.

The Verdict

We need more research, but CBD oils could prove to be a valuable,  safe choice for treating chronic pain, insomnia, and anxiety. We are unable to figure out effective amounts because there is insufficient high-quality information from human research, and it is difficult to know exactly what you are getting because CBD is now most frequently sold as an unregulated supplement.

If you choose to try CBD, be careful to check with your physician and purchase it from a reliable supplier.
