Life is all about ups and downs, and being on top all the time is not always possible. You might be blessed with a lot of things, but it’s easy to forget them and start comparing your achievements and successes with others. They say that the grass is always greener on the other side, but it might not always be true. You never what they are facing and how they are healing after a bad experience. Growth and healing take work, said an expert. Everyone has a different healing journey, so let’s take a look at the signs that show that you are doing better than you think you are!
It can be a rocky marriage or unemployment days or health scare, the reason behind a person’s pain can be anything. After facing a hard time, it’s very important to heal yourself. It might take time to heal, but remember that it’s not impossible.
Psychologist Dr Lalitaa took to Instagram to share a list of simple signs that show you are doing better than you think, and will make you feel better about yourself.
1. You are more comfortable spending time alone
When you are emotionally hurt, you want to be around people you love. But as time goes by, you will start spending time along and will be comfortable doing it.
2. You are not easily influenced by someone else’s opinions
People always have something to say about others, but you don’t have to listen to them. Do you own thing and don’t get influenced by others’ opinions. Once that happens, you know that you are healing well.
3. You understand rules of forgiveness
Forgiving someone who has wronged you, might take a lot of effort and time. But when you understand that forgiving that person doesn’t mean you need to let them back into your life, you’ll realise that you have made progress in your healing journey.
4. You accept that no matter how hard it is, you cannot change the past
Let the bad memory stay in the past as you cannot do anything about it. You might think, “Oh! I wish I didn’t trust him or her!” Just let it go as you can only heal faster if you accept that your past can’t be changed.
5. You realise that someone’s opinion doesn’t determine your worth
You should know your self-worth and value, and not depend on others’ opinions to determine your worth. When that happens, the healing journey gets easier.
6. Growth and healing take work
Be kind to yourself, suggested the expert, highlighting how healing also involves unlearning old ways of being and stepping into growth. We can get so lost in the process of growing that we forget to pause, reflect on, and celebrate our own growth.
7. Remember healing shows up for each of us differently
Again, don’t compare yourself with others as your path will be different to another’s and that’s okay. What may bring joy to you, may not for another.
8. Stop and look at how far you have come
It may not feel like it, but you are taking one step at a time. Also, take your own sweet time to notice the changes.
On an important note, the expert also warned that social media must not be considered a substitute for therapy.
