What causes a dark neck?
One of the major causes of having a dark neck can be poor hygiene. Even if you shower everyday, but do not clean the back of your neck, that can lead to dirt accumulating on your neck. Studies have shown that being obese, suffering from Polycystic Ovay Syndrome, having a skin condition or having diabetes are also some reasons that can lead to a dark neck.
Also, the skin around the neck is very sensitive. So, apart from hormonal changes it also gets easily affected by sun exposure. It is advised that you apply sunscreen on the back of your neck too before stepping out of the house.
How to clean your dark neck?
Here are a few home remedies that can help you get rid of the darkness around your neck:
1. Exfoliate
It is very important that you clean the back of your neck with soap and water every time you take a bath. It is normal that you miss that place usually but that is why it remains dirty and darkens in colour, so keep it in mind to give the back of your neck a good scrub. It’s better if you can use a loofah to exfoliate the area but remember to be gentle, rubbing too hard won’t scrub out the dirt.
2. Potato slices
Studies have shown that potato is a natural bleaching agent which helps whiten your skin. They are rich in iron, vitamin C, and riboflavin which also contributes towards your skin care. So, take a potato slice and rub it on the darkened areas of your neck in circular motion for around 5 minutes and then rinse it off.
3. Aloe vera scrub
Studies have shown that an active ingredient of aloe vera, aloin causes melanin (responsible for skin darkening) reduction which leads to skin lightening, Not only does it help in skin lightening, the cool gel moisturizes the skin and provides relief from any kind of itching or dryness caused by the skin darkening. You can either directly apply the gel squeezed out from the aloe vera leaves or you can make a scrub out of it by drying the leaves in the sun, then blending the dried leaves and adding a spoonful of curd to it.
Give these home remedies a try and you will be able to scrub off the dirt to get a clean neck!
