Kate Spade New York has been rooted in culture and art since the beginning, and the Fall 2023 collection is an artful expression of how audiences see the season, all with a Kate Spade twist, the fashion brand said in a press release.
The collection—designed by Tom Mora, SVP and head of design, RTW and lifestyle categories, and Jennifer Lyu, SVP and head of design, leather goods and accessories—highlights the joy of dressing in a way that feels eclectic, colourful, and fresh. There is a focus on heritage design elements—geometric patterns, crisp colours, craft—infused with the unexpected.
American fashion house Kate Spade New York is celebrating its 30th anniversary with its immersive Fall 2023 presentation and Pantone collaboration at New York Fashion Week (NYFW). Kate Spade New York has been rooted in culture and art since the beginning, and the Fall 2023 collection is an artful expression of how audiences see the season.
Graphic prints are seen across categories—abstract patterns on midi dresses, relaxed skirts, and easy tees that bring a modern sensibility to the collection. Vibrant brights play big, too. Satin suits in newly minted Kate Spade green and fire engine red; playful pieces in hot pink and lemon—even faux fur outerwear turns up in technicolour. Fluid sequin numbers—shimmery pants suits and shifts—add a unique sense of flair.
“The Fall 2023 narrative evokes the universal feeling of joy that the season brings—a renewed sense of energy. It’s like a blank canvas, the beginning of something new,” shared Tom Mora and Jennifer Lyu. “There’s an excitement about getting back to a routine and getting dressed again…whether meeting friends for drinks, discovering a new restaurant, or stumbling upon an art exhibit, this collection celebrates these moments in everyday life and the unexpected that can happen.”
Guests were greeted at the Whitney with a fleet of signature New York City taxis, all wrapped in the brand’s newly minted Pantone colour—Kate Spade green—that will be driven throughout Manhattan during NYFW until tomorrow.
The guests’ journey ended at the Kate Spade New York gift shop—a room fully covered from floor to ceiling in the brand’s new signature Kate Spade green, added the release.
As part of Kate Spade’s partnership with Harlem’s Fashion Row and the organisation’s annual HBCU Fashion Summit, the brand also welcomed Brandice Daniel and a group of students from Bowie State University—Maryland’s oldest Historically Black University—to offer front-row access to NYFW. The year-long partnership, which just kicked off its second semester in January, provides students with unique access to engage with Kate Spade New York’s team of executive leaders and designers.
To give access to its larger digital community, Kate Spade New York has partnered with notable TikTok creators, Charles Gross and Madeleine White, to co-host a livestream that will offer behind-the-scenes access to NYFW through their own creative lenses. The livestream will be broadcast across the brand’s TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook channels, as well as on its website.
Notable attendees at the event included Emma Roberts (actress, Scream Queens), Quinta Brunson (actress, Abbott Elementary) Haley Lu Richardson (actress, White Lotus), Lana Condor (actress, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before), Ziwe (comedian and television personality), Alyah Chanelle Scott (actress, Sex Lives of College Girls), Brandice Daniel (founder and CEO, Harlem’s Fashion Row), Whitney Port (author and television personality), Tayshia Adams (television personality); and influencers, Madeleine White, Charles Gross, Simi Muhumuza, Taylor Hage, Dylan Mulvaney, Mary Lawless Lee, Kate Bartlett, and others.
