A few years ago, people only cared about steering clear of all the hair ingredients with harmful chemicals, but times have changed! People are now aware that switching to good hair brushes is also important to keeping hair woes at bay. Case in point – the wooden comb! Recently, there has been a lot of buzz around this hair product. It has been claimed that it can do wonders for your hair! So, we had to clear the air and reach out to an expert to figure out if it actually is good for your hair or not!
Talking to Health Shots, celebrity cosmetic dermatologist Dr Soma Sarkar explained why wooden comb is a better choice for hair health and why it deserves all the hype!
Is choosing a wooden comb good for your hair?
Explaining the basic science behind wooden combs, Dr Sarkar says that plastic and metal combs can cause static in your hair because they are positively charged and your hair is negatively charged. Moreover, they are harmful to the environment. Whereas, wood offers a plethora of benefits for your hair as well as the environment.
Benefits of wooden comb for hair and scalp
Here are all the benefits of switching to wooden combs:
1. Contains negative ions
The hair on your head is negatively charged, and so is wood. This doesn’t cause static and seals the moisture in your hair. This also makes your hair look and feel smoother, explains the expert.
2. They are environment friendly
Dr Sarkar says, “Wooden comb scores over plastic and metal combs because they are environment friendly. They are organic and made of bamboo or neem bark, so they are also easier to clean and healthier to use. They can also be reused, which makes them a good option.”
3. Nourishes the hair and scalp
“The teeth of wooden combs are softer as compared to other types of comb, which doesn’t hurt the scalp. Regular use of wooden combs helps distribute natural oils on your scalp and all over your hair,” elaborate Dr Sarkar. This will help your hair look smooth and glossy.
4. Boosts hair growth
If long, luscious hair is what you want, choose a wooden comb! It massages the scalp without bruising it. It also improves blood circulation, which helps your hair to grow longer and get healthier, avers the expert.
5. Say no to tangled and weak hair with a wooden comb!
A wooden comb does not tangle your hair as much as a plastic or metal comb would. It runs smoothly through the hair and over your head, which makes it a safe option for you. Plus, it does not cause any breakage to your hair and make it stronger.
6. They are durable
Wooden combs are often made of bamboo, which is a sustainable and renewable source. It makes it more durable. Also, they are easy to clean and can be easily stored, says Dr Sarkar.
