Everyone is at a risk of hair loss! Although it’s normal and harmless to experience some degree of hair loss, bald patches on your scalp can be a sign that something is wrong. This occurs in two ways: the thinning of hair and the overall loss of density. In some cases, this condition is known as alopecia. However, not everyone who experiences significant hair loss has an issue. Instead, it might be brought on by an environmental influence, a chemical reaction, or bad hair care practices. So then, how to regrow hair and regain density? Read on to find it.
To tackle this problem in order to control hair loss and stimulate growth, you can try a few home remedies using natural ingredients.
Health Shots spoke to Debjani Banerjee, Incharge’ Dietetics PSRI Hospital, New Delhi, who listed down some best home remedies along with their benefits and importance to help in regrowing your hair.
Here are 10 home remedies to regrow hair naturally:
Banerjee says, “Just like our skin, we need to take care of our hair to keep them healthy and shiny. And while hair loss may not have any direct effect on your health, it certainly takes a toll on your emotional well-being.”
But don’t fret! Here we bring to you 10 great home remedies to regrow your hair naturally!
1. Massage
It is well known that regular massage enhances scalp health and blood flow. When used along with adequate hair oils and masks, it stimulates the scalp and improves the health of hair. Every day, remember to massage your scalp to relieve tension and stress while also enhancing the health of your hair.
2. Coconut oil
Coconut oil improves the microbiota of the scalp, which strengthens the hair follicles and scalp. Coconut oil contains necessary fatty acids that enter the hair shaft and stop hair loss. At least twice a week, massage coconut oil into your scalp and let it sit for a few hours or overnight before showering. Although additional research is needed to demonstrate its effectiveness as a hair growth stimulator, there is little question about its advantages in lubricating the hair shaft and reducing breakage.
3. Amla
Banerjee says, “Amla is rich in essential fatty acids that strengthen hair follicles and the vitamin C in amla prevents premature greying of hair.”
Try using amla hair mask: Mix 2 teaspoons of amla and shikakai powder each and add some water to make a smooth paste. Apply this to your scalp and hair and leave it for 45 minutes before shampooing. Follow this at least once a week for better results.
4. Castor oil
Castor oil acts as a miracle cure for your hair, thanks to its perfect blend of proteins, vitamin E, and minerals. Use a teaspoon of methi seeds along with 6 tablespoons of each castor oil and coconut oil, then boil the mixture until it turns brown. Before washing it off, let it cool, massage your scalp and hair, and then wait for 30 to 40 minutes. For best results, use it at least twice a week.
5. Onion juice
“Onion juice has been shown to improve circulation and promote hair growth. In fact, it can successfully treat alopecia areata – a condition that causes hair loss on various parts of the body,” says Banerjee. All you need to do is blend a few onions, squeeze the juice and apply it to your scalp and hair and leave it for 15 minutes followed by washing it with a shampoo. However, to enjoy the benefits, you need to handle the smell of onion juice.
6. Lemon
Lemons, either in the form of oil or fresh juice, have been found to enhance the quality and growth of hair. Either apply fresh lemon juice or use lemon essential oil diluted in a carrier oil as part of a hair mask to help grow your tresses naturally.
7. Egg mask
Egg mask is a brilliant way to nourish your hair. With 70 percent keratin protein, eggs are excellent to rebuild damaged and dry hair making it smooth and moisturized. Eggs and yogurt make a brilliant hair conditioner – take 2 eggs and 2 teaspoons of fresh yogurt to make a paste and apply it to your hair. Wait for 30 minutes before you shampoo your hair for the best results.
8. Aloe vera
Aloe vera is known to condition the scalp and treat hair loss. You can use it as a gel a few times a week to reduce dandruff and unblock hair follicles to promote hair growth. Alternatively, shampoo and conditioner containing aloe vera can be used.
9. Reetha and shikakai
Reetha and shikakai are age-old products tried and tested for their benefits for hair growth. While reetha is responsible for keeping you healthy, shikakai is considered a highly effective home remedy for all kinds of hair problems. Add 2 tablespoons of shikakai powder to a jar of coconut oil and leave it for 15 days. Use this at least twice a week to massage your scalp for healthy and shiny hair.
10. Essential oils
Essential oils like rosemary and lavender are rich in ingredients that boost follicle growth, and strengthen hair roots, thereby promoting hair growth. For best results, heat 2 teaspoons of olive oil and to this add half a piece of avocado followed by a little bit of honey and egg. To this mix, add 10 drops of each – rosemary and lavender and apply to your scalp and shampoo your hair after 45 minutes. Try this combination once a week for a month or two to see the results.
