After the newlyweds have settled in their married life, they eagerly wait to start the next part of their life by having a kid. A child can bring a world of happiness if your pregnancy is properly planned. But sometimes waiting to get pregnant can be tiresome, so here are some doctor-recommended ways to get pregnant faster.
At the outset, there are no such remedies that will quicken your pregnancy process. Remedies like ‘eat this fruit and it will aid pregnancy’, don’t exist. But there are some biological factors by focusing on which you can make sure that you are increasing your chances of getting pregnant.
When Health Shots reached out to Dr Sushma Tomar, Obstetrician and Gynecologist at Fortis Hospital, she suggested some methods that a couple can try to get pregnant faster.
Here’s how to get pregnant faster:
1. Focus on the menstrual cycle
To get pregnant, women need to understand their menstrual cycles so that when sperm meets egg, a healthy embryo develops into a healthy baby. “In a normal menstrual cycle, the ovulation time generally occurs between the 13th and 18th day of the process. Couples must have sex during this period, as this is their most fertile period. While knowing the timing is not always easy, tracking ovulation is much more accessible, thanks to the various online apps. Women can also do follicular studies or get ovulation kits to test their fertile cycle from any of their nearby medical stores,” says Dr Tomar.
2. Keep these things in mind during intercourse
Another essential tip to remember, says Dr Tomar, is to ensure that couples do not immediately go to the washroom to wash and clean after sexual intercourse. Controlled contraceptives, including condoms, can act as barriers to pregnancy, so couples who want to get pregnant must quit these methods. Also, it is advised not to use any oil or cream during intercourse.
3. Take folic acid tablets
A third tip related to getting pregnant quicker for the women is that they begin to consume folic acid tablets three months before the pregnancy planning as that can improve their chances of pregnancy. “Folic acid tablets help promote ovulation, encourage fertilization, and support early embryo survival. These supplements can go a long way in helping couples achieve their pregnancy goals,” says Dr Tomar.
4. Get diagnosed for medical problems
A couple could be doing everything right and still now get pregnant, so that is the time they need to think about getting a medical check up. “It is equally important that if a couple is undergoing medical problems like menstrual irregularities, white discharge per vagina or history of tuberculosis, and any abdominal surgery, they should consult a doctor or specialized expert who can help them properly plan their pregnancy,” advises Dr Tomar.
5. Regular medical check ups
“It is also highly recommended that during their menstrual cycle, women undergo their hormonal assessment and hysterosalpingography so that their fallopian tube patency is known,” says Dr Tomar. Since fallopian tubes are highly critical for fertilization, any infection or abdominal surgery can impact pregnancy outcomes. Fallopian tubes have to be healthy as fertilization takes place there.
6. Have a healthy lifestyle
Dr Tomar says that “it is also essential that the semen of the male is normal and healthy. If it contains any hydrocele, they should consult a specialized doctor at the earliest.” It is equally important that the couples follow good lifestyle habits, including a good diet, proper exercise and quit smoking and alcohol, so that the quality and quantity of the sperm are not affected.
