In Delhi, cotton yarn prices declined by ₹5 per kg since last week as trade remained low due to the absence of active buyers. “Today, on the first day of the new year, trade was limited. Buyers were absent. Traders were also on ease, but better export orders last week raised hopes for higher production in mills. However, parity is the main condition for better trade of cotton yarn,” a trader from Delhi market told Fibre2Fashion.
North India’s cotton yarn market noted limited trade on the first day of 2023. Prices were slightly lower than last week, but traders said that there was an improvement in cotton yarn exports. Mills can increase production if they do not face a disparity due to the costly natural fibre. Prices of recycled yarn in Panipat remained steady amid thin trade.
Trade sources indicated that spinning mills received export orders from countries like Bangladesh, Turkiye, Egypt and Latin America, among other countries. In Delhi, 30 count combed cotton yarn was traded at ₹260-265 per kg (ex-mill) for exports. Export deals were carried out at around $3.05 per kg (FOB). 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹280-285 per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹305-310 per kg, 30 count carded at ₹255-260 per kg and 40 count carded at ₹280-285 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.
Ludhiana market witnessed sluggish demand on the first day of the new year. Cotton yarn eased by ₹2 per kg in the local market. A trader from Ludhiana said that the market will take direction in the next 3-4 days. Domestic demand is unlikely to improve, but high export demand can provide the much-needed support to cotton yarn. 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹278-288 per kg (GST inclusive) as per TexPro. 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹268-278 per kg and ₹273-283 per kg respectively. Carded yarn of 30 count was steady at ₹253-263 per kg.
Prices of recycled yarn in the Panipat market also remained steady amid limited buying, but cotton comber gained ₹3-5 per kg because of short supply. 10s recycled yarn (white) was traded at ₹90-95 per kg (GST extra). 10s recycled yarn (coloured – high quality) was traded at ₹105-110 per kg, 10s recycled yarn (coloured – low quality) at ₹80-85 per kg and 20s recycled PC coloured (high quality) at ₹110-115 per kg. 30 recycled PC coloured (high quality) was at ₹145-150 per kg. 10s optical yarn was priced at ₹100-110 per kg in the market. Comber prices were noted at ₹150-155 per kg. Recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was at ₹80-82 per kg.
North India’s cotton prices noted an upward trend. The prices increased by ₹100-120 per maund of 37.2 kg since last week. According to local traders, cotton arrival was stable at 11,000 bales of 170 kg in north India. Cotton was traded at ₹6,125-6,250 per maund in Punjab, ₹6,125-6,250 per maund in Haryana and ₹6,325-6,400 per maund in upper Rajasthan, and ₹60,000-62,500 per candy of 356 kg in lower Rajasthan.
