As much as it is essential to partake in superfoods pre-workout, it is equally imperative to have post-workout foods to boost immunity and build muscle strength. Winter is a lot about munching on dry fruits, and the love for almonds. Almonds are a wholesome, nutrient-laden snack that can be enjoyed any time during the day. But there are some special health benefits of eating almonds before workout.

Almonds have high protein content, healthy fats, and other nutrients that support your body in recovering from exercise. They also contribute to your daily requirement of vitamin E.

A randomised controlled trial, published in Frontiers of Nutrition, made some observations about the consumption of almonds after-workout. The trial observed female and male participants who ate 57 grams almonds daily for one month, and deduced that they had reported reduced fatigue and tension, improved strength in leg and back and a decline in muscle damage than other volunteers.

HealthShots got in touch with nutritionist Avni Kaul to understand the benefits of eating almonds after a strenuous workout session.

1. Almonds aid in repairing and building muscle

According to the expert, “Amino acids are essential for forming muscles, and almonds are rich in them. While you exercise, your muscles break down and lose amino acids as an outcome. Consuming almonds after your workout will hinder this breakdown and helps you to build muscle.”

2. They help recover the body’s nutrients

After an exercise session, your body tends to get depleted of some of its essential nutrients. Consuming almonds post-workout will help replenish vital vitamins and minerals that are required for overall health.

3. Almonds improve your immune system

“Your immune system is responsible for keeping the diseases at bay in your body. Our immune system counters the formation of any disease, and almonds can help strengthen it,” says Kaul. It is known that a strong immunity will help the body fight any forming disease. So, it is important to work on building your immunity to have a healthy life.
