The production of bio-based spandex results in reduced carbon emissions compared to conventional spandex, the company said in a press release.
Hyosung is introducing its latest sustainable textile solutions at the Functional Fabric Fair in Portland.
The new bio-based spandex and 100-per cent recycled creora regen Black spandex deliver deeper, darker colours and stretch and recovery benefits.
Hyosung is also highlighting regen ocean, a 100-per cent recycled nylon made from discarded fishing nets.
In addition, the company is also launching its 3rd party-certified, 100-per cent recycled creora regen Black spandex, which delivers water-saving options for a more sustainable production process. Both fibres provide a deeper, darker black colour to help eliminate grin-through, together with the same powerful stretch and recovery benefits as its conventional creora Black spandex.
Also at the show, Hyosung is presenting fabrics from global mill partners developed with its new regen ocean, a GRS-certified, 100-per cent recycled nylon made from discarded fishing nets and other reclaimed nylon waste. Hyosung conducts an extensive collection, chemical recycling, and creation process to produce exceptional-quality yarn that meets brands’ performance expectations and contributes to their corporate sustainability goals.
Hyosung is showcasing its comprehensive range of performance fibres to help product developers and designers envision products made with their textiles. The display features a variety of fabrics and concept garments developed by the company’s Fashion Design Center (FDC).
The exhibit also highlights several other sustainable yarns, such as creora regen, which is 100-per cent recycled spandex certified by a third-party, and creora bio-based, which is made with 30 per cent renewable resources. Additionally, the display includes regen xanadu, a blend of recycled post-consumer PET and corn-based materials, creora color+, which is acid/reactive dyeable spandex, and creora EasyFlex, a soft stretch spandex designed for exceptional comfort.
Simon Whitmarsh-Knight, Hyosung’s global marketing director—textiles, said: “Several brands approached us to develop a dope-dyed Black spandex with the additional benefits of being partly made from renewable resources or 100-per cent recycled. So, it made perfect sense take the technology used to make our successful creora Black spandex and add it to our creora regen and creora bio-based spandex to meet our customers’ diverse needs.
“Cleaning up our oceans is critically important for the health of our planet. With our ocean-based recycled fibre offering, brands can produce fully traceable eco-friendly products that are in line with their sustainability objectives and convey a compelling message to consumers.”
