Why do you need a detox after Christmas?

So, all the sweets, rich and fatty foods along with cocktails can take a toll on your health, especially if you have been following a strict diet. Studies have shown that a sudden change in diet can sometimes be too much for your digestive system.

Nutritionist Priyanka Sharma of Cloudnine Group of Hospitals in Noida, shared that detoxification helps nourish the body by maintaining overall health, healthy weight, energy levels, and more. So, here are some ways to help you detox post-Christmas that you can easily do at home.

How to detox after Christmas?

Health Shots reached out to nutritionist Aman Puri to understand how one can detox themselves post-Christmas festivities.

Here’s how you can get rid of toxins post-Christmas, as shared by the expert:

1. Hydrate yourself

Fluid plays an important role in detoxifying the body. The easiest way to cleanse your body after partying is by hydrating yourself with adequate fluids, since they contain electrolytes which help remove toxins. One can take detox drinks, including cucumber-lemon water, mint-ginger water, vegetable juice, and lemon tea.

2. Try a detox diet

Fat-rich foods and alcohol can disturb body function. A fibre-rich diet helps cleanse the body. It includes fruits and vegetables such as cauliflower, radish, broccoli, green leafy vegetables, oranges, and guava that replenish fibre stores and prevent bloating.

3. Exercise

Every detox regimen must include an exercise plan. If you don’t feel like going to the gym, including home exercises such as yoga, meditation, Zumba, and walking on the terrace may help flush out toxins from the body.

4. Sleep

The body requires adequate sleep for the smooth functioning of the brain cells so that your body flush out toxins while sleeping. So, have a sound sleep for 7-8 hours to detoxify and recover yourself.

5. Make mindful choices

The best advice to prevent the regret that comes with Christmas overindulgence is to eat mindfully. Keep your meals light and healthy. Avoid baked, packaged, processed and refined foods. Have plenty of proteins and fibre to stay satiated for longer and prevent the urge to eat often. Include foods like ginger, cinnamon, lemon, fennel, cardamom, and others since they help ease digestion.
