Saudi Arabia’s Fashion Commission recently agreed with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology to study the possibility of setting up a local research centre within the university’s research and technology department to innovate sustainable solutions in textiles and fashion. Domestic and global companies and experts will work with the centre.

The agreement covered the possibility of developing and implementing entrepreneurship programmes, localising relevant skills, research and innovation initiatives in materials, fashion and textiles, media reports from the kingdom said.

The MoU includes the possibility of the commission providing resources and logistical support to boost emerging technologies in small enterprises, local and international companies that offer sustainable technologies, smart textiles and technical clothing.

It also has scope for cooperation in providing training, employment opportunities for Saudi youth in the fashion sector, and joint work between the commission and the university in providing cooperation opportunities for university students in this sector.
